Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Alps, Innsbruck is not only a world-class European ski resort, it’s also the former seat of Maximilian
I’s Holy Roman Empire.
This imperial legacy has left its mark, most notably in the Old Town where beautiful Rococo buildings sit alongside pastel facades and typically Tyrolean, flower-adorned windows. The visitable Hofburg imperial court owes its modern appearance to 18th-century Empress Maria Theresia.
The Hofkirche contains a memorial tomb for Maximilian I, and his life is depicted in frescoes on the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) nearby, named after the gleaming, copper tiles lining its entrance.
Flying into Innsbruck Airport, it’s easy to see why the city was so highly regarded. Practically every street ends with a view of the Alps, lush in summer, snowy white in winter. Nestled on a slope is Schloss Ambras, ex-residence of Archduke Ferdinand II, while the surroundings provide summer mountaineering, hiking and golf.
In winter of course it’s all about the fantastic Innsbruck skiing and snowboarding. Ski areas include Nordkette mountain, accessed by cable car and chairlifts near the town’s hotels and B&Bs on Booking.com. Its varied pistes means that several international competitions are held here, as well as the Bergiselschanze ski jump contest. The après-ski is laidback and centred around chalet-style bars and traditional restaurants.

Innsbruck is stunning!
Innsbruck is stunning! It's much smaller than Vienna and smaller than Salzburg, but bigger than some of the villages we visited. Even so, it was one of our favorite stops because of the gorgeous historic district, the river, the history, the people, and the beautiful mountain surroundings. If you've never been, you need to go!

Highly recommend getting out into nature as much as possible...
Highly recommend getting out into nature as much as possible, there are some amazing hikes in the area for all skill-levels. The surrounding wilderness is genuinely breath-taking. I recommend the Natterer-see trail for anyone with a basic fitness level. The attached photos are from our hike. One bit of general advice for anyone planning to visit; most supermarkets close around 7pm so bring food with you if you're planning on arriving late.
The best hotel we have stayed in. Great location beside the Inn river and easy walk over the bridge to the Altstadt. Car parking available nearby. Fabulous welcoming host Anja and friendly staff. The hotel was fully renovated 6 years ago and is immaculate. Room 9 upstairs is large and very comfortable. Cafe / bar has great selection of drinks and light meals. Overall a wonderful experience, try to stay 2-3 nights at least. If the weather is good, Innsbruck is beautiful.
The recently updated interior. Modern and clean with an Austrian traditional feel. The location was across the river 20 mins walk to the old town, however the Innsbruck tourist card which was given on check in meant all the frequent buses free. We enjoyed the walk. Very popular and busy restaurant which offered a wide range of delicious food. Would certainly recommend. Great breakfast offering a wide selection of hot and cold items.
Excellent location in the old town. Room is spacious. This hotel provides facial tissue paper!! Breakfast is more than adequate, mainly cold dishes like other hotels we stayed in Austria. The only hot dish is egg. Staffs are friendly and efficient. Thai and Korean restaurants just round the corner. A number of Chinese restaurants within walking distance. Public car park with subsidised rate is just 170 metres away.
Love this hotel, it is situated just next to a nice park, comfortable and convenient, yet tucked away from busy city centre. Hotel gave a welcome card, which is free to ride on all buses and trams. That’s really a bonus! I had a good view too. Nice amenities and a cozy restaurant on the lobby floor. My best stay in Austria. Thank you so much, Yosef, who I met upon check in, you have been very helpful.
convenient location about 10 mins walk from the station, then 10 mins into the city centre. Innsbruck is a small but fun and friendly place. Lots of restaurant options near by. Breakfast at the hotel had a really varied spread of fresh and tasty options. The hotel is modern and funky and friendly. There was prosecco in the room on arrival in a little ice bucket which was a nice touch too.
Christine, the owner/manager, is super efficient and client-oriented; she made sure that our special requests were immediately attended to. Her recommended list of restaurants is on target! The hotel location is a pleasant 6-7 minutes walk to the Old Town, as well as to the Congress Station, where one can take the Innsbrucker Nordkettenbahnen to see the Top of Innsbruck.
The hotel was located perfectly, just cross the bridge and you walk straight into the city centre. The beds are comfortable, the bathtub was amazing after a long day of hiking and the breakfast was impeccable. Staff is very helpful and the hotelbar has a great ambiance and offers nice drinks. Would definitely recommend staying here if you're visiting Innsbruck!
We never met our host, but the communication was good. The location is excellent (within walking distance) from the Old Town Centre, as well as the Lowenhaus station for the Nordkette cable car. The apartments is very clean and more than sufficient for a great stay in Innsbruck. Innsbruck is a delightful city to visit.
Not only the location was perfect (view of the river, 5 mins walk to the old town) but the hotel is part of signature building that makes up the Innsbruck photo op!
Breakfast was perfect - they made fresh eggs at your request, which not many European hotels do now a days!
The staff was very courteous and helpful
Located on a lively street within old town; layout of the hotel room was ingenious; decor was sophisticated; stocked amenities; full-sized shower; comfortable bed; sitting chairs with a table in the room; hip bar on the 6th floor (our room was on the 5th); Starbucks across the street for east morning coffee.
This hotel is very well located almost exactly between the train station and the old town. Both are, therefore, within walking distance. Stay on the top floor with a mountain view...it's worth it! Very welcoming and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Large and comfortable room.
Nice location, 5-10 min walks from Innsbruck station and also just 5-10 min walks from sights in old town Innsbruck. Building seems quite old but well maintained, clean, everythinh works. Plus is included simple buffet breakfast in a restaurant on 1st floor looking over the town.
The appartement gave us the feeling/experience of an Austrian living and we felt comfortable there. It was very nice that the hostess could communicate in English and that she gave us the welcome card and tips for our visit in Innsbruck.
The hotel is a new and well designed structure just off Innsbruck city centre, which can be reached with a 15 minutes walk. It is very accessible by car though. We had a small apartment, with a good dimension and comfy services.
Really beautiful location, and just a short bus ride down the mountain into the Old Town of Innsbruck. I found the hotel very cute, with some nice facilities, and a really excellent restaurant serving great food
The hotel was close to train station. the Old Town, the Hofburg and the river. Staff was very accommodating. Cafe Central is next door and is a stunningly beautiful place for coffee, pastries or drink.
New and modern apartment, very clean rooms and bed and the house was well maintained, kind owner, nice view, convenient parking, nice kitchen, towel warmer, Innsbruck old town 15 minutes by driving
